Belagavi, April 22, 2026: In a significant move toward fostering environmental stewardship, the students and faculty of Jain College of Engineering, Belagavi, in collaboration with Research Heights Foundation (RHF)observed Earth Day with a formal “Sustainability Pledge” ceremony.

The event, held in the Sir M.V. Auditorium, saw a large assembly of students and staff coming together to symbolize their collective commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

The program was spearheaded by Dr. J. Shivakumar, Principal & Director, who emphasized that sustainable practices must move beyond theory into everyday action. “Our students must not only adopt eco-friendly habits but also serve as ambassadors of environmental conservation within their wider communities,” Dr. J. Shivakumar stated during his address.
Adding a global perspective to the event, Dr. S. B. Hegde—Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Coordinator for PG Studies (MBA) at JCET Hubballi, and Visiting Professor at Penn State University, USA—joined the session virtually via Google Meet. Dr. Hegde delivered an insightful talk on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) practices in global universities, highlighting how international institutions are leading the way in climate action.
The ceremony was attended by Heads of Departments (HODs) and faculty members from various disciplines, Students, SDG Faculty and Student coordinators reinforcing the institution’s interdisciplinary approach to environmental responsibility.
Key commitments made during the pledge included:
• A significant reduction in single-use plastic on campus.
• The active conservation of water and energy resources.
• Participation in the Bharat Environment Program 2026 initiatives currently hosted at the institution.
The event concluded with a powerful reminder that while individual actions may seem small, their combined impact is the only path toward meaningful environmental change.
